Choosing an American Bully: what you need to know

American Bully. Video

Representatives of this dog breed are often compared to bodybuilders. The appearance of American Bullies is indeed specific. A mountain of seemingly pumped up muscles, square jaws, a penetrating gaze - just like Schwarzenegger in the role of the Terminator. But what’s interesting is that under the iron muscles beats a kind heart that loves its owner, and behind a wide forehead, like a bull’s, lies an agile mind and a desire to learn.

Breeders claim that the American Bully is best described as “universal”. This breed of dog is distinguished by a fairly developed intelligence and is focused on serving people, so that it makes loyal companions. Its intimidating appearance, great physical strength and self-confidence make the bully a reliable bodyguard and watchman. In addition, there are four types in the breed: standard, classic, pocket, xl - which allows you to choose a pet of the appropriate size.

We will tell you in detail what kind of American Bully dog is, what kind of character it has, what is required to keep such a pet and when this breed appeared.

History of the American Bully breed

The American Bully breed is one of the newest, it is not even 50 years old. Work on creating the dog began in the 90s of the last century. Just at this time, at the peak of popularity, everything was too big and bright. Muscular stars shone on movie screens, striking with their brutality, strength and mastery of martial arts, as well as courage and good nature. Perhaps it was these images that gave the breeders the idea of creating a super-powerful dog that would become an ideal companion and live in a family with children.

The Bully's ancestors were the American Pit Bull Terrier and the Staffordshire Terrier, which in turn are descendants of the Old English Bulldog. These massive dogs were used until the 19th century for bloody performances - bull baiting. And when bull baiting was banned in Great Britain, it happened in 1835, the dogs began to fight each other. Then the fighting Staffordshire bull terriers appeared, which on American soil acquired a new name - pit bull terriers.

Dave Wilson is considered the main author of the American Bully breed. He was known as a reputable breeder of American Staffordshire Terriers and Pit Bull Terriers. By crossing his pets, he created even more powerful dogs, with a square and short muzzle, an incredibly wide chest and prominent large muscles. The new type was called Razors Edge, but remained within the standards of the original breeds. In addition, Wilson planned to change the character of the dog, making it more peaceful and friendly not only towards people, but also towards other four-legged animals.

Fans of classic Amstaffs and pit bulls were not happy about the appearance of the new breed. According to many, bullies are an attempt to spoil real fighting dogs. Allegedly, as a result of crossing, animals lose the best traits of their ancestors, and in addition, the health of the livestock and performance characteristics deteriorate.

At the same time, in California, breeder Richard Barajas created another type of American Bully. He named his pets Gottiline because their father was a pit bull named Gotti. By the way, this dog is the parent of numerous offspring; thanks to him, about 900 puppies were born. Gottiline bulls were stocky and rough in build, with a large cheeky head and overdeveloped muscle mass. But despite being so massive, they retained the mobility and activity of their ancestors. They also lost their fighting fervor, but gained friendliness and a calm disposition.

Breeding work on the creation of American bullies was carried out in several independent nurseries. But reliable documents about selection have not been preserved. According to some reports, the new dog is the result of mixing not two, but at least five breeds. In addition to Amstaffs and pit bulls, breeders crossed different types of bulldogs: American, English and French.

Dogs like Gottiline and Razors Edge were called pit bull terriers in documents for almost ten years, as they met the standard. However, in the early 2000s, the United Kennel Club (UKC) changed the conformation requirements, leaving only lighter terrier-type dogs in the breed. Because of this, massive and squat bullies found themselves out of exhibitions.

After this, breeders and admirers of new dogs united in The Elite Edge society, began to hold unofficial events and seek recognition of the breed. In 2004, the first bully club, the American Bully Kennel Club (ABKC), was opened. Now this organization has its branches in 30 countries, including Russia. In 2013, the breed received UKC registration. The Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) has not yet recognized the American Bully. The documents are under review.

The new breed of dog was given a name - American Bully. Bully is translated from English as a bully, bully or fighter.

The efforts of various breeders were reflected in the standard of the American Bully. It turned out that dogs vary quite significantly in size and weight. As a result, four in-breed types were established: xl, standard, classic and pocket, also known as pocket.

Despite the fact that American Bullies have not yet received international recognition, their numbers are growing. The breed enjoys the greatest success in its homeland, the United States. But in Europe there are more and more lovers of this unique dog. Many people like four-legged “hooligans” for the combination of a fierce, brutal “bad guy” appearance and a gentle character.

Breeds similar to Ambullies

Since the breed was formed not very long ago and is still in the development stage, many people confuse bullies with their closest relatives.

American Bully appearance: standard, classic, pocket, xl

Fans of graceful and sophisticated breeds are unlikely to like the American Bully. Compared to the elegant greyhounds, harmonious shepherd dogs or Great Danes, he is built too roughly and ponderously. This dog is like a small tank among cars. He is strong, muscular and all made up of chopped cubic parts, the main one of which is a massive skeleton. The heavy bone, by the way, does not limit the bully’s movements at all.

Weight is not a key indicator for the American Bully. It is considered in conjunction with the dog's growth. It is important that the basic proportions of the body are maintained, and there is not even a hint of obesity.

As already mentioned, there are four breed types, which differ in size and some other parameters:

  1. The standard type is a bulky and powerful dog, at least 43 cm tall at the withers for males and at least 40 cm for females. Maximum height 48 - 51 cm.
  2. The classic type (classic) is a bully of standard height, but with a lighter figure. They have less weight, but otherwise retain all the characteristics of the breed: a large angular head, a short cube-like muzzle, prominent muscles.
  3. The pocket, or pocket, type of bully is smaller in size. The height of males at the withers should not exceed 43 cm, females should not exceed 40 cm in height. All other characteristics, massiveness, squareness, large muscle mass, must correspond to the breed.
  4. XL Bullies are tall, heavyweight athletes. The height of male dogs is from 51 to 58 cm, female - from 48 to 56 cm. At the same time, there should be width, cubism and power characteristic of the standard type.

Interestingly, the American Bully types have not yet become a permanent and unchangeable characteristic for this dog breed. In one litter, obtained, for example, from an XL parent pair, there may be puppies of different sizes. They are born identical, and then some grow to XL, while others remain at the standard, classic and, less often, pocket levels. So if the future owner wants to buy a pet of any particular type, you need to pay attention to older puppies, older than six months. Their potential dimensions are already visible.

Let us describe in more detail what a typical representative of the American Bully breed looks like. These dogs have a particularly large head with a wide forehead. It is not sculpted, but carved rather carelessly, but clearly. The skull part is distinguished by fleshy cheeks, the transition to the muzzle is very distinct, as if carved out. Ears that stand high can be cropped, or they can be left natural. Low and wide set small eyes can be a variety of shades other than pink and reddish, but blue irises are rated lower. Eyelids with pigmentation. The muzzle is heavy and shaped like a square. The nose is straight, neither drooped nor turned up. The jaws are well drawn. The lower one is especially strong and not raised. Lips fit tightly. The bite is distinctly scissor-shaped. The nose is large with large nostrils, the color can be any, with the exception of pale pink.

The bully has a strong and muscular neck, it is slightly arched, without dewlap or excess skin. Body of medium length with massive muscles. The back is short, straight or slightly sloping at the tail. The chest is very wide and deep, but it should not limit mobility. The ribs are steeply curved, barrel-shaped. The forelimbs are set wide apart, the hind limbs are slightly narrower. They have large, straight bones and strong muscles. Paws are rounded, with tightly clenched toes. The tail, resembling a uniformly tapering rather thick whip, is set low and reaches the hocks. In a relaxed state, it hangs down, and during movement it is raised to the level of the back. When very excited, the tail is raised higher, but should not hang over the back.

Bully dogs have a confident and proud gait. He is full of his own dignity, but is keenly interested in the world around him and looks around carefully. The dog moves without any tension, its step is energetic, free and balanced. When trotting, the paws do not cross and do not go under the body. The top line maintains a general horizontal position, only slightly bending in movement.

The American Bully is a short-haired dog. The hairs are straight and should be no longer than 1 cm, with a smooth structure and bright shine. Any colors are allowed, with the exception of marbled (merle).

Bully breeders have noticed that breed lovers from different countries have preferences for color. For example, chocolate and blue-black are popular colors in the United States. It is believed that bullies of this color look especially brutal and stern. Residents of Europe prefer more delicate tones: fawn, light brown, smoky, reddish.

Now let's list the disadvantages of the breed's exterior. Minor defects in appearance include: different eyes, a noticeable third eyelid, too bulging eyes, a long pointed muzzle, a flattened stop, a curved or weak lower jaw, an albino nose (bright pink), snub nose; too short or, on the contrary, long tail, as well as “cheerful”, minor bite problems, thin neck of irregular length, flat feet, weak crooked limbs, wavy or curled coat. The score will be reduced if the dog moves with a wobble, clumsily or ambles, lifts its legs high or places them under the body.

More serious disadvantages:

  • Significant overshot or undershot (0.6 cm or more);
  • short tail, as well as with creases and twisted areas;
  • wool more than 1 cm long.

The following defects will serve as reasons for disqualification:

  • Pink eyes (albino sign);
  • spotted merle color;
  • deafness in one or both ears;
  • the tail is curled, stubby or cropped;
  • aggression towards people.

Differences in breed varieties

Varieties by height:

  1. Pocket (“pocket”).
  2. Classic size and Standard (the height is the same, but there are differences in massiveness and muscle development).
  3. XL (“EXL” or “super large”).

With the same height at the withers, the Classic is somewhat lighter in weight with a less wide body and less open chest in relation to the Standard, which is heavier, wider, with more massive bones and muscles.

A high degree of development and bone density, prominent muscle expression, their density and tone are important for all varieties of the breed.

Height and belonging to one of three varieties are established after the dog reaches the age of 9 months.

Since height and weight must be proportional to the build and degree of physical development of the dog, there are no special weight requirements.

Matings are allowed only between representatives of the closest height varieties , for example, between pocket and classic (standard), or between classic (standard) and XL.

Ask a Question

The breed standard very clearly defines sizes by ambulatory class. For Pocket dogs, males below 34 cm and females below 31 cm are disqualified, for XL - males above 60 cm and females above 58. But breeders have their own unofficial classification: Micro - dogs below 31 cm and XXL - above 60 cm. Thus, Each bully has its own class. According to the rules, these species should not participate in breeding work.

American Bully character

It doesn’t matter what type and size of American Bully: standard, classic, pocket or XL - the basic character traits will be the same for everyone. Dogs of this breed were created as companions, so they strive to earn the love and trust of a person. They are friendly and affectionate with their family and friends, and tolerant of guests.

The bully's threatening and even frightening appearance largely contradicts his character. It is worth recalling that aggressive behavior directed at people is considered a breeding defect for this breed. Breeders tried to eradicate the malice in the character of the American Bully. But still, these dogs are not a timid dog; they show confidence and initiative if they notice a threat to their owners. In such a situation, the dog will intervene and show itself as a protector. However, dog experts do not recommend starting this breed solely for guard duty and property protection. A bully will most likely turn out to be a mediocre watchman; he may lack suspicion and alertness. Although the fierce muzzle and iron muscles can scare away intruders from the house where the jock dog lives.

The American Bully usually becomes a family dog, he does not single out and choose one as his owner, but loves everyone indiscriminately. True, relationships with someone can be warmer and more sincere. In the family circle, these “hooligans” behave cute and cozy, like cats. They always try to be close, if their size allows, they can climb onto a person’s lap or at least snuggle up to his leg. They love affection and hugs, scratches and roosting together on the sofa.

It is difficult for people unfamiliar with the breed to imagine that the American Bully is perfect for a family with children. These tough-looking dogs are affectionate towards human cubs. They are ready to amuse them and play with them for hours, and also tolerate being pulled by the tail and ears without objection. However, such a massive dog should not be left alone with a very small child. Bully may accidentally step on or push the baby. And older children should be explained the rules of communication with a dog; they must understand that this is not a toy and a living creature.

Bullies get along with other pets without any problems if they become friends with them in puppyhood. New animals can be difficult. Relationships with outside dogs will require even more attention. Breeders worked to eradicate zoo aggression in American bullies, but they could not completely solve the problem. Representatives of the new breed are more tolerant than American Staffordshire Terriers or Pit Bull Terriers, but still they cannot be called good boys. Young males are especially cocky; they cannot stand attacks and often start fights with same-sex opponents. Dogs that have been socialized in their youth, interacted a lot with different animals, or were trained in a group of puppies of other breeds are more likely to relate to strangers.

American Bullies have a fairly calm, balanced temperament. In childhood, they can be too restless and active, and they have a bubbling interest in life. And an adult dog becomes slower and even seems phlegmatic. But as soon as a reason appears, the bully is happy to have fun and have fun. Like all “companion” dogs, he perfectly understands the mood of his owners and is ready to adapt to it. If the family is going on a hike or going to play tag or something like that, the faithful dog will be happy. When the owner has no time for a long walk or is simply lazy, the bully will get by with a short exercise. And then he will happily doze under the table or near the sofa. The main thing for him is that the owner is nearby.

Character and habits

The American Bully is a friendly breed, but some of its representatives are quite capable of defending their owner if necessary.

Character Traits of Boys and Girls

  • ♂︎ Bully males, especially during puberty, are prone to fighting for leadership. They will try to prove their dominance to the owner. The methods are simple: disobedience, stubbornness, self-will. It is the boys who are ready to fight with another dog on the street.
  • ♀︎ Bully bitches are more affectionate and cunning. Where the male acts with pressure, the girl will prefer a roundabout maneuver. At the same time, girls are prone to mood swings that negatively affect their work. Boys are always ready to work for the benefit of their master.

Friendliness

From the family in which the bully finds himself, he will choose a leader, to whom he will be selflessly devoted. Towards other family members there is constant friendliness. The bully will follow its leader to the ends of the earth, follow its tail, and show affection and tenderness. Fulfilling all the owner’s wishes so that he is happy is the goal of a bully’s life.

The dog will steadfastly endure the owner’s absences from work, but a representative of this breed should not be left unattended for a long time: if the owner is constantly away from home, the dog becomes sad and can express negativity through damage to the environment .

Bully loves company and cannot stand quarrels. Seeing heated arguments, he will try to attract attention to himself. For example, “accidentally” dropping a Bohemian crystal wine glass. It is not for nothing that experts consider the American Bully one of the best family dogs.

Bully is friendly towards family friends and guests, quickly gets used to it and strives to communicate. He has no aggression towards people, but he has a craving for new information.

The American Bully usually does not show aggression towards other animals . But during puberty, males can begin to sort things out with other males.

The breed standard also states that aggression and anger are not typical for these dogs, and who would doubt it, just look at the pictures of a smiling bully.

Attitude towards children

Bullies are ready to play with children for hours. Restless, curious dogs consider children suitable company and are ready to tolerate even crushed paws and tails. A bully will never hurt a child. The only problem is the dog’s powerful build. She can push the baby completely by accident.

Ask a Question

It is not recommended to leave a small child alone with a puppy or teenage dog. In this case, both parties do not know how to behave correctly: the puppy may accidentally push the child or use its teeth during play, and the baby may unintentionally hurt the dog without calculating the force. Adults must explain to both one and the other what is acceptable to do and what is not.

Security qualities

Bully Watchman lacks aggressiveness. The appearance of an athletically built dog and its large mouth will frighten any burglar, but the bully himself will do little for this.

In the role of a bodyguard, the bully looks very organic - a powerful physique, an amazing mouth and a menacing appearance. But this is rather more of an appearance, bullies can defend their owner, but if you need a bodyguard, then you should choose a different breed.

Pros and cons of the Bully breed

The American Bully dog breed appeared quite recently. Many Russian animal lovers have never even heard of the tough animals with a stern appearance but a gentle character. Therefore, there are still too few reviews about bullies, which means it is difficult to determine all the advantages and disadvantages of such a pet.

But let’s still name the undeniable advantages of the American Bully:

  • You can choose a convenient size from four breed types;
  • original appearance;
  • no complex care required;
  • balanced and affectionate character;
  • the ability to adapt to a person;
  • gets along well with children;
  • there are security qualities;
  • loves to study;
  • sheds little.

Now about the disadvantages of dogs of the new breed:

  • Very high cost of puppies;
  • will require careful education, training and socialization;
  • physical activity is necessary for health;
  • may exhibit zoo aggression.

Breed and children

American Bullies are suitable for families with children, as they are patient with their games. Dogs show great sympathy and tenderness towards the “younger members of the pack”. Four-legged animals are impressed by their playfulness, energy, curiosity, and thirst for adventure.

Another secret of American Bullies' tolerance is their high pain threshold. They are able to endure for a long time the antics of children who want to cuddle or pull the dog by the ears or tail.

Important! You should not leave children under 16 years of age alone with an American Bully, as the latter can injure the child during play. Mature males are also dangerous for children.

Raising and training the American Bully

The American Bully is people-oriented and therefore strives to please its owner. At the same time, dogs of this breed are quite developed intellectually and are easy to train. But wonderful natural abilities can be ruined if you do not raise a puppy. As soon as the baby is in your home, the educational process should begin. The whole family takes part in it. The system of prohibitions and approvals must be discussed in advance and adhered to. This is the only way your pet will understand what to do well and what is absolutely not allowed.

Terrible Bullies are very sensitive creatures. Most of them respond well to positive reinforcement. They sincerely try to receive affection from their owner and are happy if they are praised. And we’re ready to move mountains for something tasty. You just need to find an approach to your pet.

Training must start small. The first skill is getting used to the nickname, then the commands “place”, “sit”, “to me”, “near” and so on. During lessons, remember that the puppy cannot concentrate for long, so take breaks and play with him.

Owners of American Bullies say their dogs are not always obedient. This breed can be willful, especially during adolescence. Therefore, the owner needs to be prepared for the fact that firmness and perseverance will be required in raising the puppy. But under no circumstances should violence be used. It is quite tough, without shouting, to talk to the dog, deprive it of something pleasant or ignore it.

At the age of six months, an American Bully puppy should undergo a course of general training or obedience. It will be great if your pet trains in a group under the guidance of a dog handler. This will help socialize the dog. If you want to raise a bully to be a guard, do not rush; it is better not to start training for protective guard service until the dog is two years old. But agility and other types of competitions can be mastered at any age.

Bully care and maintenance

American bullies are smooth-haired dogs, so they are heat-loving; Russian frost is not for them. In addition, these harsh-looking creatures do not tolerate extreme heat. Therefore, even formidable XL dogs are not suitable for living in an enclosure. Bullies are intended only for apartment keeping; a warm home will also suit them.

The future owner should know that a dog with pumped up muscles needs active walks. Their duration may not be too long; an hour and a half is enough for an adult bully to get enough exercise. But during this time he must train intensively: run, jump, overcome an obstacle course, carry something heavy. Some American Bully owners walk their pets in special vests with weights sewn into them.

However, significant physical activity is strictly contraindicated for puppies. While the formation of the skeleton, joints and ligaments is underway, that is, until the age of one, bullies must be protected from injury. Try to prevent him from playing on slippery floors or jumping from or onto furniture. Do not rush your kitten during a walk, do not let him run after the bicycle. Weighted ammunition should also not be worn for up to a year.

Before the puppy moves into your home, prepare a private place for him; the bed should be soft enough and in a quiet corner. You will have to remove all dangerous and expensive objects from the reach of your future pet. Puppies try everything; they are explorers and destroyers by nature. Therefore, you will have to monitor the baby while you are at home, and if he is left alone, you need to fence off an area for him where there is nothing important.

Hygiene procedures

American Bullies can be called dogs for lazy or busy owners. These dogs do not require complex care. The short fur hardly sheds if you brush it a couple of times a week. Bullies should only be bathed when absolutely necessary. For example, if he got dirty in something smelling bad. Frequent bath procedures, on the contrary, harm these “jocks”. Detergents can cause allergies or disrupt the acid-base balance of the skin. Therefore, for dogs, wiping with a damp and then a dry towel is sufficient.

Mandatory hygiene procedures include regular examination of the bully's ears, teeth and eyes, as well as claws. The dog must be accustomed to these manipulations from puppyhood. If dirt has accumulated in the ears, it should be removed with a cotton swab soaked in veterinary lotion or hydrogen peroxide. You can wipe your eyes with plain water or a tea solution. A special paste and brush are useful for cleaning your teeth, but it can be replaced with a regular bandage wrapped around your finger. To prevent tartar, it is helpful to give your dog hard chewy treats. To trim the claws you will need a nail clipper; for American bullies of the XL, standard and classic types it is better to choose a sickle clipper.

Catering

American Bullies are prone to gaining excess weight, so proper feeding is especially important for them. Many dog owners opt for industrial food of premium class and higher. This is convenient, since the finished mixture contains a completely balanced diet. You just need to follow the manufacturer’s recommendations and not exceed the serving.

It is more difficult to find a complete natural diet for the American Bully than a “dry” diet. The basis of “natural food” should be protein foods. Approximately 75% of the diet is lean meat (beef, poultry) and by-products from it. They are given daily, preferably raw after deep freezing. Once or twice a week you can diversify your diet with sea fish and dairy products. About 15% of the menu should be allocated to fiber-rich foods - non-starchy vegetables and seasonal fruits. Another 10% are carbohydrates in the form of cereals; vegetable oils can be added to porridges. A couple of times a year it is worth conducting vitamin therapy courses. Dietary supplements that are sold in veterinary pharmacies are suitable for this. Chondroprotectors are useful for strengthening joints; the veterinarian can advise which drugs are suitable for a particular dog.

You cannot feed an American Bully food from the owner's table. Confectionery products, everything sweet, salty, spicy, smoked, tubular bones, citrus and exotic fruits, and grapes are harmful to the animal. With any feeding option, your dog should have a bowl of fresh drinking water freely available.

Health and illness

It is not yet possible to judge how good the health of American bullies is. There are too few statistics, because the breed was registered only recently in 2013. But breeders claim that the average life expectancy of a bully is 10-13 years.

Unfortunately, the new breed has inherited the diseases of its predecessors. Bullies have enormous muscle mass and are prone to weight gain. And obesity provokes a number of problems. Jock dogs are predisposed to cardiovascular pathologies. If you notice that your pet gets tired quickly and is breathing heavily, you need to consult a veterinarian. An ultrasound examination (ultrasound) may be required for diagnosis. Sometimes it turns out that the heart has nothing to do with it, and difficulty breathing was caused by stenosis of the nostrils or other pathology characteristic of brachycephalic animals.

Another cause for concern is joint health. American Bullies can suffer from dysplasia. Prevention of the problem is a balanced diet without excess calories and moderate physical activity.

Some bully owners note that their pets are susceptible to food allergies. Therefore, all changes in diet should be introduced gradually, with caution.

How to choose a bully puppy

The decision to get a puppy of any breed is a very important step. You need to understand whether you are ready to devote time to raising and training your kitten, walking and playing with it. And also whether you can spend quite a decent amount on feeding your pet and veterinary services. In addition, American Bully puppies are expensive, it is not so easy to buy them, they are too rare a breed for Russia.

To make the right choice, get as much information as possible about bullies, go to exhibitions, meet the owners of dogs of this breed and breeders. If possible, visit a nursery where such animals are bred. Then you will see them in their natural environment, and not on parade at a dog show.

You can only purchase an American Bully puppy from an official kennel or from a breeder who is registered with the breed club. You should not trust those who offer a kitten at a low price, allegedly because of an unscheduled mating or for some other reason there are no documents for it. Almost one hundred percent - this is a scam. Most likely, they will sell you an Amstaff or pit bull mix. The fact is that puppies of these breeds are very easy to confuse with bullies. Only a specialist can figure out who is who.

A real breeder must provide the future owner with the following set of mandatory documents: a pedigree certificate from the American Bully Kennel Club (there is an ABKC branch in Russia), a veterinary passport with notes on vaccinations and treatments, and a contract for the sale of the dog. In addition, the puppy must have a chip or brand. A conscientious seller will certainly provide the buyer with a reminder that tells how to take care of the puppy.

When the time comes to choose a little bully (they are given to a new family at the age of one and a half to two months), pay attention to the health and mood of the little ones. Your chosen one should have clear eyes and clean ears, he is well-fed, but mobile, active and inquisitive. The typical American Bully puppy is a happy little guy, always ready to play.

Puberty and mating

American Bullies reach sexual maturity at 1.5–2 years. Before this time, mating is not recommended, since the male’s reproductive cells are still immature, and the female’s body is not ready to bear fruit.

Mating is planned after the bitch's third heat. Therefore, it is important not to miss the first estrus (sexual heat). During this period, the bitch becomes restless, a loop (the genital slit swells), discharge appears (transparent or bloody), and she flirts with male dogs.

Important! 2 weeks before mating, partners must take a course of anthelmintic medications. American bullies that have been vaccinated and have a certificate of good health are allowed to mate. Before the “date” you need to provide a certificate of origin, certificates from exhibitions.

It is allowed to mate only individuals of the same type (standard with standard, pocket with pocket).

The mating is carried out on the male dog’s territory, so the dog will feel confident. The male's claws need to be trimmed before the meeting, otherwise he may injure the female. If the bitch is inexperienced, then before mating you can give her water with a few drops of valerian so that she is less nervous.

To consolidate the result, partners meet a second time a day after the first meeting. Then there is a greater chance of fertilization.

It is recommended for a female to give birth once a year so that her body has time to recover from previous births. If she produces offspring twice a year, her health will suffer.

Typically, a female American Bully gives birth to 2-4 puppies. If there are more cubs, then most of them are culled.

Important! Breeding American Bullies in Russia costs 100,000–150,000 rubles. In Europe this price reaches 3000–5000 euros.

How much do American Bully puppies cost?

You already know that in Russia the American Bully is an exotic, and therefore expensive, breed. There are very few nurseries where they are bred. The breeders themselves admit that the livestock is so small that they often have to mate with dogs from Europe. And this further increases the cost of American Bully puppies.

In addition, the price is influenced by the qualities of a particular pet. The more chances he has to grow into a champion, the more expensive the price will be. Certain colors are especially valued, for example, chocolate and lilac. And of course, the merits of the parents are of the utmost importance. By the way, males can cost less. In Russia, the minimum cost of an American Bully puppy is on average 100 – 150 thousand rubles. It may be lower if the kitten has defects due to which he cannot be exhibited and take part in breeding. The price of a promising bully puppy from European producers can reach up to 500 thousand rubles.
