About the manufacturer

Bosch Tiernahrung GmbH & Co in Germany began creating dog food back in 1984 and today has high ratings among European buyers and a leading position in the world market.

The manufacturer claims that all Bosch food lines are suitable for human consumption, not to mention animals, since the ingredients are grown exclusively in Germany, are subject to high-quality processing and strict testing at all stages of production and the final product. The only ingredients that are imported from abroad (usually New Zealand or Austria, Italy) are lamb meat and rice cereal.

Among its advantages, the company has its own laboratory for researching and improving the formulation of Bosch dog food using high technology, as well as for developing new lines and types.

Since 2007, the company has completely switched to its own processing of meat products, which made it possible to establish even greater quality control and, therefore, improve products.

The company has also recently launched the Bosch Soft line of semi-moist food and canned food and Sanabelle cat food.

BOSCH for dogs

is very proud of the fact that all the ingredients they use in their food are approved for human consumption. Today this is a new fashion, but not many have the corresponding certificates, Bosch has it, it’s called IFS - international food certificate. Another positive point is that the feed is still produced in Germany from classic ingredients, and is not transferred to countries with cheaper facilities and raw materials. I do not agree with the rest of the manufacturer’s statements - Bosch food, unfortunately, is far from an ideal diet. They contain few animal proteins and a lot of plant proteins, and besides, the manufacturer is disingenuous when they say that the product does not contain gluten, but does contain corn. In the broad sense of the word, gluten is any grain or vegetable protein. But the gluten content here is within normal limits, so consuming this food is dangerous only for animals with gluten intolerance (celiac disease). The Bosch Bio series contains even less animal proteins, the first places are occupied by cereals, and meat occupies only the third and fourth places, therefore, such a diet cannot be considered balanced for dogs.

Types of Bosch dog food

The lines are quite diverse, so there is a division by age:

  • puppies up to one year;
  • adults;
  • for older dogs.

For each of the above series there is an additional structure based on rock sizes. So, types of food for puppies:

  1. Bosch Puppy. Poultry meat and milk powder are used as a basis for a smoother transition from maternal feeding to nutritious nutrition. Designed for babies from 1 to 4 months.
  2. Mini Junior. The main ingredient is poultry. Designed for small breed dogs after 2 months.
  3. Junior Medium. The food is suitable for medium-sized puppies. The main product is poultry, but it can be found with lamb (good for dogs with impaired gastrointestinal tract function).
  4. Junior Maxi. Designed for large breed puppies. It is distinguished by the addition of mussel flour for the correct formation of the musculoskeletal system. The diameter of the granules is increased compared to other samples in this line.

Types of products for older pets:

  1. Mini Adult. Dogs up to 15 kg, there are two flavor options - poultry with millet (hypoallergenic version) and lamb with rice cereal (gastrointestinal problems).
  2. Bosch Adult. This food is an excellent choice for dogs that live in apartments or do not have a lot of activity. Feed in three flavors: lamb and rice (intestinal instability), poultry and spelled (increased protein), potato and salmon (helps eliminate coat problems).
  3. Adult Maxi. Poultry-based food with high calcium content for strong bones. Formulated for large animals from 30 kg.
  4. Adult Menu. The food is intended for pets living in large cities with a damaged environment. There are 12 herbs to support immunity, vegetables and chicken.
  5. Bosch Sensitive. Food for dogs with frequent allergies, stomach or intestinal problems, and skin problems. The main ingredients are lamb and rice. Suitable for all sizes of dogs, ranging from 2 kg to 80 kg.
  6. Mini Light. Choice for small breeds with increased body weight based on chicken and low fat.
  7. Bosch Light (Bosch light food). Has the same characteristics as Mini Light.
  8. Bosch Special Light. For pets with liver or kidney problems, with a small amount of protein.
  9. Bosch Reproduction. An option for pregnant bitches and during lactation, there is an increase in fatty acids and beneficial enzymes.
  10. Bosch Active. For active dogs with low fat content.
  11. Bosch Extra Active: good for intense physical activity, with antioxidants and Omega-3.

And animals that have lived quite a long time can enjoy the following foods:

  1. Mini Senior. Based on chicken and a high percentage of fiber, for small breed sizes after 7 years.
  2. Bosch Senior. For pets weighing over 15 kg.

What does it contain?

Since this is a premium food, the search for various preservatives, flavor enhancers and other things will not be successful, which is undoubtedly for the best. All feeds are based on fresh poultry, fish (fish meal) or lamb, but the manufacturer does not indicate which ones. Their content in Bosch dry dog food varies depending on the type of food and ranges from 20% to 39%, which, alas, is not much, since fresh meat loses more than half of its weight during processing.

The largest part is occupied by cereals, which are available in varying quantities depending on the product variant and act as a source of carbohydrates and nutrients:

  • rice (37%) is an easily digestible, hypoallergenic product;
  • millet (18%) - a large amount of potassium, strengthens the cardiovascular system;
  • corn is a rather useless component designed to reduce the cost of production;
  • barley – carbohydrates, vitamin B.

Spelled, wheat, wheat flour and bran, and potatoes are also added to the list. Among the useful additives, it is worth highlighting corn gluten, fish oil (as for humans, it provides animals with many useful substances), mussels, carrots, yeast (B vitamins, prebiotics), spinach, flaxseeds (unsaturated fatty acids, fiber), chicory and beet pulp (prebiotic inulin, which helps digest food), potassium chloride and more. You can also find berries in the composition: blueberries and cranberries (positive for the genitourinary system).

The ratio of nutrients: proteins - 22%, fats - 10%, fiber - 3%, raw ash - 6%, but the company decided not to indicate the carbohydrate percentage, although its amount is higher than it should be.

Feed composition overview

An application for a super-premium class implies the absence of cheap, useless ingredients in the feed . Bosch offers a composition without flavor enhancers and flavorings.

  • In almost all foods in the line, the meat ingredient comes first.
  • Its percentage is about 20%. This is not much at all for a super-premium product.
  • The amount of fat depends on the type of diet and varies from 6 to 18%.
  • Carbohydrates are represented by rice, millet, barley, as well as corn and wheat, which are considered rather useless feed fillers.
  • The composition is rich in microelements and useful additions in one form or another (for example, mussel flour, herbs).

Pros and cons of Bosch dog food

AdvantagesFlaws
  • A variety of food lines, there is plenty to choose from for dogs of small, medium and large breeds.
  • The understatement is what kind of poultry or fish meat was used in production.
  • Price corresponding to the quality.
  • Somewhat high cost.
  • High percentage of animal protein.
  • The use of corn and wheat, which serve to reduce the cost.
  • A large number of different additives to strengthen the immune system, improve coat, activity, digestion, and stool.
  • Low amount of fiber.
  • A fairly common brand that can be found in almost any pet store.
  • The manufacturer is gradually getting rid of useless wheat.
  • There are foods for dogs prone to allergies and various coat or stomach problems. For example, Bosch Sensitive.
  • There is a grain-free Bosch Life Protection line, but it also has a price to match.
  • Special developments for older dogs, such as Mini Senior.

Advantages and disadvantages

A detailed analysis of the range and composition allows us to identify the pros and cons of Bosch dog food.

Advantages

A huge range of various options gives the owner the opportunity to choose food for the pet, taking into account all its characteristics. This is the main advantage of the manufacturer.

In addition, the undoubted advantages are:

  1. price-quality ratio of the product;
  2. rich content of microelements and nutrients;
  3. high prevalence (food is sold in almost every store).

Flaws

The disadvantages include:

  • low content of protein components;
  • the presence of poorly digestible ingredients such as corn and wheat.

Does Bosch food have advantages over other foods in its class?

Despite some shortcomings in the composition, the food is superior to other foods in its group.

  • A positive distinguishing feature is that there is dry food for pregnant bitches and during lactation. Bosch Reproduction ensures the correct growth and development of puppies in the womb and increases the feeding period. It is given to the dog after a month of pregnancy and until the end of feeding.
  • The second good difference from analogues is the exclusion of wheat from the recipe, since this grain can cause allergies. Until recently, this cereal was present in the ingredients, but the manufacturer decided to change the composition.
  • Bosch food is much easier to find in supermarkets or on the market, since it is quite popular in Russia when compared with brands of the same class.

Recommendations for feeding your pet

It is advisable to use food designed specifically for small or large breeds, because they contain different useful components. The recipe for large dogs contains a large amount of calcium for the proper development of joints, bones and their strength.

If your pet has problems with this brand, it is most likely due to the individual characteristics of the dog. The company is meticulous about quality control and selection of ingredients for the composition. According to reviews from experienced veterinarians, Bosch is well suited for large active animals.

Healthy Ingredients

Yeast (dehydrated, 0.1% mannan-oligosaccharides, 0.06% β-glucans) – Probably Saccharomyces yeast, a dried source of B vitamins and beneficial prebiotics. It’s good that the manufacturer partially indicates the percentage of beneficial components of this yeast. Beta-glucans strengthen the immune system, and mannan-oligosaccharides prevent harmful bacteria from multiplying in the intestines.

Green-lipped mollusk extract (0.1%) is beneficial for the articular and ligamentous apparatus of large breed dogs. This is a source of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) - the building materials of cartilage tissue. However, chondroitin and glucosamine are usually used as substances that support joint health, which we did not find in the diet. Perhaps the manufacturer believes that only green-lipped mollusk extract in such a small quantity is sufficient.

This food also contains a variety of vitamin and mineral supplements, which are necessary partly due to the lack of minerals and vitamins in the raw materials, partly due to the peculiarities of the technological process for the production of dry food (this is the industry norm, and therefore is not a direct indicator of high or low quality of diet).

Reviews

Tatyana Pavlovna, veterinarian with 7 years of experience

I do not believe that Bosch food lines are balanced, because almost all options have too little protein. This food is suitable for dogs who do not like vigorous activity. But for pets who are allergic to gluten, these foods are completely contraindicated. But there are still advantages: even people can eat this food, because only fresh products are used, and the premium class implies the absence of various chemical additives and low-quality by-products.

Polina, owner of the Dogo Argentino

The dog is in excellent health and has no problems with either digestion or fur. The allergy did not manifest itself in any way. The Great Dane is quite active and cheerful. Previously they gave him Bosch Junior Maxi for large breed puppies, and then switched to Bosch Edalt with lamb and rice flavor for adult dogs. I definitely recommend this brand.

Elena, owner of a Basenji dog

We have three dogs in our family, and one of them suffered a great tragedy: he ate rat poison and began to slowly die. Veterinarians literally pulled me out of the other world, but all this, of course, left unpleasant consequences, such as liver problems and stomach sensitivity. We chose Bosch Mini with lamb and rice cereal. I really liked the light ingredients and the presence of prebiotics for digestion.”

Semi-moist food like Bosch Soft (is it a worthwhile replacement for drying)?

Sometime last September, semi-moist food became available for sale. It's not exactly dehydrated crackers, but it's not a wet puree either. More like juicy cookies. We tried Bosch Soft in different versions for adult dogs. The impression is very positive. True, it is somewhat more expensive than a regular dry Bosch and I still don’t understand how big the profit is from using it. Who tried it, what do you think?

Quite normal food is semi-moist and equally balanced. The manufacturer checked them anyway before releasing them for sale. he doesn't need bankruptcy and shame. But you still need to compare the dog’s behavior and health. If everything is fine with the dog. She likes them, then you can safely buy them.

Semi-moist food has a big advantage; it is easily digested by the digestive system. It is best to vary your dog's food, as I do for my Labrador. Feed dry and wet food. Semi-moist food has one drawback over dry food - it has a shorter shelf life.

Look at the dog's perception. I give it a couple of times a week instead of drying, the dog likes it and digests it easier, which is important at our age.
