Composition and features of Italian cat food Monge

Monge food appeared on the Russian market not so long ago, but has managed to prove itself well among breeders, cat lovers, veterinarians and, first of all, among its consumers - the cats themselves. Many pets eat it with pleasure, feel and look great. Find out in more detail what types of food the brand offers, their composition and why it was almost banned.

The secret to the success of Monge products

Increasingly, people are starting to purchase Monge, claiming that this cat food contains the maximum amount of beneficial vitamins, microelements, and also consists of natural ingredients without synthetic additives.

Monge cat food

All Monge foods are made from poultry raised in our own factory and fed only grain and grass. When compared with other manufacturers, they add antibiotics and hormones to the food, but they do not do this when making Monge food. All farm-raised poultry is even supplied to Italy's most elite Michelin-starred restaurants.

The plant where Italian food Monge is produced is equipped with the most modern equipment. Twin-screw extruders can use not only fresh natural meat, but also completely dehydrated meat. This production technology allows us to obtain food for animals that is aromatic and attractive in taste.

All production is kept under strict control, from the selection of ingredients for preparing dry or wet food to the packaging of finished products.

For reference! Some pet owners don't know the correct brand name. They are looking for Munsch or Moji food for their cats. In fact, the name of the manufacturer is read as Monge or, in extreme cases, Monge.

Information about the feed manufacturer Monge

The Monge cat food factory is located in an ecologically clean region of Italy. The complex meets all EU requirements and is the most modern plant in terms of technological equipment in all of Europe.

The factory is equipped with the most modern equipment from world manufacturers, thanks to which the buyer will receive a high-quality product with a pleasant aroma and excellent taste.

As already mentioned, many people prefer Monge cat food because they are prepared using only poultry fed with natural products, without the addition of hormones and antibiotics. The company produces products under the brands Gemon, LeChat, Simba, Moustache.

User reviews

Veterinarians and pet owners speak positively about Monge products. Among the disadvantages, the high price is noted; among the advantages, there is a positive effect on the well-being of the pet.

I have a cat with allergies. I recently switched her to Monge and chose a grain-free, hypoallergenic composition. I tried several options, but this is the food she eats most willingly. The cat's health quickly improved. Among the shortcomings, I would like to note the inconvenient packaging (I bought 10 kg - there are no handles or holes for fingers).

Sonya

I switched my ten-year-old cat from natural food to Monge Senior because he started having digestive problems. At first he didn’t want to eat, but over time he got used to it - the vomiting went away, his stool returned to normal. My health has clearly improved - you can even see it from my appearance.

Daria

I am a veterinarian and have been supplying Monge food for a long time.
I buy products from the Grain Free line. Together with proper treatment, the diet perfectly improves the well-being of sick animals. I use it if “patients” have problems with internal organs, sometimes I prescribe it after operations. Maksim

Monge feed composition

Monge for cats is available in a wide range. It makes no sense to list all the ingredients of each variety; it is enough to focus on the main components of the product.

Gemon (food for cats and kittens): description and composition

Monge cat food contains the following ingredients:

  • Meat. It is necessary for the cat's body, because it contains a large amount of protein. Among meat products, chicken is usually used because, unlike beef and pork, it has a low cost. There are options with turkey, beef and other types of meat, but their cost will be slightly higher.
  • Rice. To make Monge cat food, only hypoallergenic types of rice are used. In addition, this is the only grain that is well absorbed by the pet’s body. Rice contains a large amount of carbohydrates and also has high energy value. As a percentage, the amount of rice varies from 1 to 25%, depending on the type of food.
  • Salmon and its oil. The composition contains an increased amount of proteins, microelements, as well as unsaturated fatty acids omega 3, 6, 9. When consuming this oil, as well as the salmon itself, the mental activity of the animal increases.
  • Source of proteins. This can be egg powder, corn grits or flour, as well as animal protein.
  • Chicken fat. Unlike pork fat, it is much more easily absorbed by the animal’s body and does not create a burden on it. Also a source of calories.
  • Pea fiber (insoluble). They have a beneficial effect because they help digested foods leave the cat’s body faster and prevent possible intestinal problems.
  • Taurine. A component that animals usually obtain from eating raw meat and which is very important for the full functioning of the entire body. Must be included in the animal's daily diet.
  • Vitamins, microelements.
  • Additional ingredients, depending on the type of food, may include cranberries, yucca, rose hips, rosemary, blueberries and other useful components that saturate the pet’s body with nutrients.

For reference! In the production of feed, both fresh wet meat and dry meat are used.

Feed composition

Line assortment

The Italian company's products include several types of food suitable for cats with different needs. Among them:

  • classic dry food for daily use;
  • functional diets for kittens, lactating cats, mature and elderly animals;
  • canned food;
  • special food that is as close in composition as possible to the diet of cats in their natural habitat;
  • veterinary diet without grains and potential allergens.

Feeds differ in composition and quality. The price also varies.

Dry food

The most affordable and popular version of Monge products is classic dry food. They are available in several varieties, including:

  • Kitten. The diet is suitable for kittens, as well as pregnant and lactating cats. It is distinguished by a high fat content and a special composition of the vitamin and mineral complex, which has a beneficial effect on the body.
  • Adult Cat. Food for adult pets with a standard content of protein, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins, microelements and other substances. It is distinguished by a high content of calcium and phosphorus, as well as their non-standard ratio - 1.5:1 instead of the recommended 2:1. Not recommended for spayed or neutered pets.
  • Cat Senior. Diet for older cats, recommended for animals aged 7 years and older. Contains an improved complex of preventive nutritional supplements. Among them are glucosamine and chondroitin, which normalize joint health, as well as an extract from pineapple core, which improves immunity and prevents the development of inflammation. In addition, the food contains an increased dose of antioxidants that slow down the aging process and improve metabolism.
  • Natural Monoprotein (Rabbit/Duck). Monoprotein food based on rabbit or duck meat. Contains wheat and corn. The composition is similar to the regular diet, except for a different protein source.
  • BWild (Hare/Anchovies). Improved composition based on fresh and dry hare meat and anchovies. It is distinguished by a higher content of animal components and a reduced amount of grains. The composition includes additional vitamin and preventive additives: dried berries (raspberries, blueberries, cranberries), flax seeds, beets, pineapple pulp extract. The ingredients are selected to match the animal's natural diet.

Feed can be purchased in packages of 0.4, 1.5 and 10 kg. The price for an average package varies from 990 to 1160 rubles.

Wet canned food

Monge wet food differs favorably in composition from dry food. They consist almost entirely of meat with a small amount of plant additives. There are three types of canned food:

  1. Natural. A natural diet consisting almost entirely of meat components. There are options based on beef, chicken, fish, and seafood. For additional fiber, rice is added (about 1%). There are vitamin and mineral supplements, taurine, fatty acids, fructooligosaccharides.
  2. Monoprotein. Wet food with turkey, chicken and rabbit meat. There are options with herbal additives - carrots and peas. A complete monoprotein composition suitable for daily feeding.
  3. Monge VetSolution. A line of medicinal foods that are indicated for pets with different diagnoses. There are formulations for animals with dermatological diseases, pathologies of the stomach, kidneys and liver, severe urolithiasis, diabetes, and obesity. Feeds differ in composition. They are available in both wet and dry forms.

Monge canned food is attractive because it consists of whole, structured pieces of meat rather than minced meat. But it’s still better to add granulated food to your cat’s diet, since feeding exclusively on softened foods leads to upset of the digestive glands.

Special formulations

Among Monge foods you can find formulations intended for animals with special needs. Among them:

  • Monoprotein Trout Kitten. Composition for kittens with allergies to poultry meat. The main source of protein is trout. Some of the cereal components are replaced with potatoes, but corn is left. Beet pulp is an additional source of healthy plant fiber.
  • Cat Sterilized. A diet whose composition is optimized for castrated and sterilized pets. It has a low fat content, which can cause deficiency in cats with different metabolic characteristics. The amount of minerals is also reduced - this is done to prevent the development of urolithiasis. The disadvantage of the composition is the absence of substances that help stabilize the acidity of urine.
  • Monoprotein Sterilized Trout. Trout-based food is suitable for spayed or neutered animals with poultry allergies. Contains wheat and corn, so it is not completely hypoallergenic. It is characterized by a reduced amount of calcium and phosphorus. If you consume this food daily, it is recommended that you regularly show your cat to the veterinarian.
  • Hairball. Food for cats prone to regurgitation of hairballs. Contains a large amount of fiber, which helps remove hair from the body. Additionally, it contains fish and fish oil, which strengthen the hair and reduce the rate of hair loss.
  • Salmon Adult Cat. Composition for pets with skin diseases. The main source of protein in the feed is salmon, with an additional source of protein being chicken. Increased amount of vitamins A and E.
  • Cat Urinary. Preventive food against urolithiasis in cats. Contains substances that regulate urine acidity.
  • Cat Sensitive. Diet to normalize digestion. It is characterized by a reduced amount of fiber, which prevents irritation of the esophagus. The manufacturer claims that the food contains a special complex of probiotics to normalize microflora, but they are found in all Monge products.
  • Indoor. Composition for domestic cats that do not have sufficient physical activity. Designed to improve digestion and maintain optimal weight.

It is worth noting that Monge medicated food is not able to cope with the disease on its own. They should be used in conjunction with the main treatment on the recommendation of a veterinarian.

Pros and cons of nutrition

The undoubted advantages of Monge food for kittens and cats include:

  • the finished product contains only natural meat;

Despite all the advantages of feed, they also have some disadvantages:

  • Mongies are not always found on store shelves;

Manufacturer

The history of the Monge line goes back more than one decade and it all began with a tiny farm where chickens were raised for sale. The meat went to Italian cafes and restaurants, and for a long time they didn’t know where to use the leftovers.

In the end, Baldasar Monge, the owner of the farm, decided to start producing food for animals living under the same roof with humans. The first batch of cans hit the shelves of local stores in 1963, and production expanded and improved.

Today in Italy there are several farms where ducks, turkeys and chickens are raised. Raw materials are processed using modern American and Swiss equipment, which allows you to preserve all the beneficial substances, smell and taste.

Canned fish is made in Thailand, in a small factory. The Monge concern is constantly improving its work, introducing new technologies and inviting specialists.

Veterinarians' opinion

According to veterinarians, Monge for kittens is the most common food, but it has a unique natural composition, without hormones and antibiotics. In addition to natural components, it contains a large number of prebiotics, which have a positive effect on microflora and also stop putrefactive processes in the intestines.

The food increases the pet’s immunity and prevents them from gaining weight, as can happen from another type of food. The range also includes a line specifically designed for removing hairballs from the stomach.

Veterinarians recommend Monge food

Experts recommend Monge food for kittens, because it is based on poultry meat, which is raised at home and does not use chemical additives during feeding. Unlike many other brands, Monge for kittens is a little more expensive, but buyers know what they are paying for.

Important! Wet food, including canned food, contains a minimum of fat, which does not give the cat a chance to gain weight.

Among the wide range of food for pets, veterinarians recommend using only high-quality natural food that is not harmful to health and saturates it with useful microelements and vitamins.

The food line includes foods that are ideal for cats with gastrointestinal problems. During this problem, pets may not go to the litter box for a long time, which is fraught with negative consequences. But by consuming Monge daily, your pet will easily have a bowel movement every 1-2 days. While consuming this type of food, the stool becomes softer, making the sick pet feel much better.

According to doctors' recommendations, Monge is one of the best solutions not only for healthy cats, but also for those with health problems.

Thus, when buying Monge, every owner will be 100% sure that his pet will grow healthy, strong and will receive all the necessary vitamins and minerals.

Grain Free Veterinary diets

Medicinal food Grain Free Veterinary diets
In general, any veterinary food raises doubts about its composition, it just so happens. However, Monge dietary food pleasantly surprised us; it is much better in quality than the popular veterinary lines Royal Canin, Hills, ProPlan and so on, since it does not contain cheap grain crops! The assortment includes the following foods:

  • Urinary Oxalate (for the treatment of oxalate-type urolithiasis).
  • Urinary Struvite (for the treatment of struvite-type urolithiasis).
  • Dermatosis (for cats with skin diseases).
  • Obesity (for weight loss).
  • Gastrointestinal (for gastroenterological pathologies).
  • Renal (diet for kidney failure).
  • Hepatic (diet for liver diseases).
  • Diabetic (diet for cats with diabetes).

Since I am not a veterinarian, I do not want to go into details regarding the composition. After all, the food is still dietary; it contains easily digestible hydrolyzed proteins (hydrolyzed salmon protein) or freeze-dried meat products (freeze-dried chicken, pork, duck).

The food contains quite a lot of carbohydrate components and sources of fiber, but also quite high-quality fats (chicken fat, duck fat, salmon oil). Of course, you should not simply feed such food - only as prescribed by a veterinarian. We cannot evaluate it as a regular complete food, but we were pleased with the fact that the food does not contain grains or gluten.
