395+ Beautiful Names for Lizards, Geckos and Other Reptiles

Reptiles have become so popular as pets that they almost no longer seem exotic. These animals are convenient for those who spend little time at home, cannot devote much time to their pets, and often go on business trips. For the comfort of a reptile, first of all, a properly equipped terrarium is necessary, and it can easily survive the lack of the owner’s attention.

Cold-blooded scaly animals cannot give their owner such tenderness and devotion as a cat or dog, but many are still attracted by the opportunity to become owners of a “miniature dragon.” For those who have recently become the happy owner of a lizard, and for those who only dream about it, we have compiled a list of the most beautiful, original and meaningful nicknames.

Names after dinosaurs

Lizards are the closest relatives of dinosaurs, who lived with them at the same time and still retain many archaic features in the structure of the body. Many people find the miniature lizards to be remarkably similar to the extinct monsters, and even in movies, dinosaur artists use the lizards' appearance and movements as references. Fans of paleontology can rightfully name their pet after one of the dinosaurs:

  • Allosaurus
  • Alocodon
  • Alshasaurus
  • Apatosaurus
  • Brontomerus
  • Hesperosaurus
  • Diplodocus
  • Iguanodon
  • Inupiaq
  • Carnotaurus
  • Coronosaurus
  • Megalosaurus
  • Notronichus
  • Pteranodon
  • Stegosaurus
  • Talarur
  • T-Rex
  • Triceratops
  • Urhosaurus
  • Utahraptor

This is interesting! The eyes of lizards serve them not only for vision. For example, during drought, geckos accumulate moisture from the air in front of their eyes and then lick it off. And toad-shaped lizards can shoot their own blood at enemies from the corners of their eyes.

Reproduction

In nature, individuals are ready to mate all year round, except winter. As a result, the female begins to look for hollows in trees where she can lay eggs. Most often, 6-8 clutches are obtained with a frequency of 30 days. Incubation takes from three months to six months - it all depends on environmental conditions.

Before propagation, you need to place large pieces of bark and small trunks with hollows in the terrarium. The number of offspring also depends on how many places for laying the female can find.

In order for offspring to appear, the temperature in the tank must be maintained at +30 °C. If everything is done correctly, incubation will take approximately 4.5 months. At this time, the female’s body needs as many minerals as possible, including calcium. Otherwise, she will start gnawing on the shell.

A couple of months after laying the eggs, the offspring should be transferred to a separate incubator. This is done for its protection - so that adult individuals cannot eat newly hatched ones. Insect larvae and crickets are suitable for feeding small Geckos.

Funny and cute nicknames

At first glance, cold-blooded animals are rather secretive, slow and boring creatures, however, terrarium keepers who live side by side with them for many years can tell a lot of interesting stories about the antics of their pets. Lizards will never miss the opportunity to escape from the terrarium and go explore the apartment on their own; they will happily scare your guests and your cat, and over time they are able to become attached to the owner and sit in his arms. Mystical nicknames

Everything scaly and cold-blooded has long aroused awe in people - a mixture of fear and curiosity. The largest part of superstitions and legends went to snakes, who were appointed to the role of earthly representatives of universal evil. But the myth-makers did not ignore lizards, although the legends present them in a much more positive light than snakes. For example, among Mexicans a lizard is a symbol of fertility, among North American Indians lizards represent agility, and the indigenous peoples of Australia consider lizards a symbol of rebirth.
