Vetom 1.1 for cats: instructions for use, composition, dosage and price

A new generation probiotic, veterinary dietary supplement Vetom for cats and other domestic animals is widely used as a therapeutic and prophylactic agent. This natural biological product restores the normal balance of the microflora of the stomach and intestines, improves metabolism, and has immunomodulatory properties. The result of its use is good digestion, excellent health, activity and beautiful appearance of the animal.

History of the drug's creation

Vetom for cats is a probiotic that improves intestinal microflora. The founder of the idea of the health benefits of microbes was I.I. Mechnikov. He argued that immunity depends on the state of the intestinal microflora. But scientific research into this issue began much later.

Probiotics protect your cat's immune system

The first experiments to create a drug based on bacteria of the genus Bacillus and, in particular, Bacillus subtilis took place during the Second World War. Soviet scientists paid more careful attention to this work in the post-war period.

The goal of scientific research was to create a drug that stimulates the immunity of humans and animals, as well as suppresses the growth and activity of putrefactive and pathogenic microorganisms. Scientific experiments were carried out at the Kiev Institute of Microbiology named after. Zabolotny under the guidance of Professor V.V. Smirnova.

During long-term observations, scientists selected bacteria that benefit the body. Experts have created several drugs containing beneficial bacteria. Subsequently, the study of the properties of bacilli continued: scientists deciphered the structure of the bacillus DNA, studied its structure, and sought to recreate the bacterium artificially. In the 1990s, scientists created a recombinant strain of Bacillus subtilis, which became the basis for the drug Vetom.

For your information! Currently, experiments to create new probiotics continue in various laboratories and institutes.

Dangerous viral diseases in cats

The diseases listed above primarily affect animals with reduced immunity, small kittens, and unvaccinated cats. Many of them are fatal without treatment.

With calcivirosis, the mortality rate reaches 30%; the disease is typical only for cats and is not dangerous for people. The virus affects the upper respiratory tract and is spread by airborne droplets through contact with a sick animal. A person can bring a dangerous virus into the house on their clothes, so even domestic cats can become infected. The infection is most severe when animals are kept in groups.

The acute course of the disease is observed in small kittens; adult cats often experience the disease asymptomatically. The incubation period is 2-15 days, symptoms appear 3 days after infection:

  • sneezing;
  • lacrimation;
  • inflammation of the mucous membrane of the eyes.

A little later they are joined by:

  • increased body temperature;
  • weakness;
  • refusal to eat;
  • nasal congestion;
  • thick mucous or purulent discharge from the nose;
  • ulcers in the mouth.

Treatment involves taking antibiotics, which disrupts the balance of beneficial and harmful microorganisms in the pet's intestines. To restore it, Vetom is prescribed in addition to the main treatment.

Distemper, otherwise known as panleukopenia, is a viral infectious disease characterized by high mortality. In kittens, the mortality rate is more than 90%; adult cats with good immunity have a high chance of recovery, but remain carriers of the virus.

The main symptoms of plague:

  • heat;
  • damage to the heart and gastrointestinal tract;
  • general intoxication of the body;
  • dehydration.

In the acute course of the disease, deterioration occurs quickly, the temperature reaches 41° and above, the pet refuses food. The infection is accompanied by greenish-yellow vomit that may contain mucus and blood. The feces take on a foul odor.

The disease is accompanied by severe abdominal pain, dehydration, and the cat sits by a bowl of water and does not drink. The animal quickly loses weight, the coat becomes dull. Possible coma. The rapid course of panleukopenia leads to the sudden death of the pet; a mild form of the disease manifests itself as malaise and ends with recovery, but the cat remains a virus carrier.

Antibiotics are also used in the treatment of other infectious diseases. The dietary supplement supports the functions of the digestive system, alleviates the animal’s condition during the period of fighting the disease, and strengthens the body’s protective functions.

Bacteria of the genus Bacillus subtilis enter the cat’s intestines and secrete enzymes and substances similar to antibiotics:

  • interferon;
  • bacitracins;
  • amino acids;
  • enzymes.

Dexamethasone for cats: instructions for use

Thanks to the appearance of these beneficial substances in the intestines, inflammation goes away, absorption improves and metabolic processes improve. The body better absorbs proteins, amino acids, carbohydrates, fats, sugars, bile salts, dipeptides, triglycerides, calcium and iron. Bacteria secrete substances that improve intestinal microflora and acidity. Thanks to their action, cellular and humoral immunity is activated.

Important! The body becomes more resistant to viruses, fungi and pathogenic bacteria.

Reviews from veterinarians

Lidia Romanovna Kurchenko, veterinarian:

“The now popular drug Vetom belongs to the category of dietary supplements that have a general strengthening and probiotic effect. Vetom, intended for humans, is practically no different in composition from the veterinary drug. There are about 15 varieties of this probiotic, which are assigned specific numbers. Different types contain different strains of Bacillus subtilis, which act, in principle, similarly. Vetom 1.1 is most often purchased for cats; buyers usually prefer the powder form: when using it, it is easier to divide it into doses.

Leonid Ivanovich Storozhenko,
veterinarian:

“Veterinary specialists consider Vetom one of the best probiotics: the Bacillus subtilis bacteria contained in it are universal and successfully multiply in all parts of the intestine, normalizing the composition of the microflora in them. At the same time, the elimination of toxins is accelerated and the intestinal walls are cleansed of toxins. It is good for weak kittens and adult animals recovering from a serious illness or surgery. The dietary supplement has a sweet taste, and even picky cats eat it with pleasure in their food. Vetom is compatible with any medications, except antibiotics - they have a detrimental effect on Bacillus subtilis.”

Contraindications and side effects of the drug

Side effects almost never occur if the dosage is strictly followed. In rare cases, side effects appear from taking Vetom powder. Cats may experience diarrhea and flatulence, or increased pain in inflamed organs.

There are very few contraindications to using Vetom. This medication may cause allergies in sensitive animals.

Important! The drug should not be taken by cats that have developed allergies, as well as those with diabetes, pregnant or lactating women.
