Mastitis forte for dogs: instructions for use, contraindications and side effects

In this article I will talk about the veterinary drug Mastiet Forte for dogs. I will describe the form of its release, the composition of the drug, indications for use and mechanism of action. Mastiet Forte is a local antimicrobial combination drug used in veterinary medicine. Used for the treatment of otitis, balanoposthitis in males and infectious dermatological diseases.

Release form and composition of the drug Mastiet forte for dogs

The medicine is produced in disposable plastic syringes. One syringe contains one dose, which greatly simplifies the calculation of the volume of the required product for one-time use. The package contains 20 syringes, each containing 8 g of active ingredient.

The medicine is a yellowish oil suspension.

Active ingredients:

  • neomycin;
  • bacitracin;
  • prednisolone;
  • tetracycline.

Excipients:

  • magnesium stearate;
  • liquid paraffin (glycerin).

Mastiet Forte 1 syringe, 8 g

I. GENERAL INFORMATION

1. Zurab M. (Mastijet® Forte). International nonproprietary name: tetracycline, neomycin, bacitracin and prednisolone.

2. Dosage form: suspension for intracisternal administration. Mastiet Forte in 1 dispenser syringe contains as active ingredients: 200 mg of tetracycline (in the form of hydrochloride), 250 mg of neomycin (in the form of sulfate), 2000 IU of bacitracin and 10 mg of prednisolone, as excipients - 368 mg of magnesium stearate and up to 8 g Vaseline oil. In appearance, the drug is a yellowish oily suspension.

3. Mastiet Forte is produced packaged in 8 g packages in disposable plastic dispensing syringes, the tips of which are equipped with protective caps. Dispenser syringes are packaged in 20 pieces in cardboard boxes along with cleaning wipes and instructions for use.

4. Mastiet Forte is stored and transported in the manufacturer’s sealed packaging, separately from food and feed, in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, at a temperature of 2°C to 8°C. The shelf life of Mastiet Forte, subject to storage and transportation conditions, is 24 months from the date of production. Do not use Mastiet Forte after the expiration date.

5. Mastiet Forte is stored in places inaccessible to children.

6. Unused medicinal product is disposed of in accordance with legal requirements.

II. PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

7. Mastiet Forte refers to combined antibacterial drugs for intracisternal administration. Quincy, Quincy Quincy Zapashny, Ceredio, Streptococcus disagalactiae, Streptococci uberis, Klebsiella spp, Arcanobacterium pyogenes, Escherichia coli. The mechanism of action of the tetracycline and neomycin included in the drug is the inhibition of protein synthesis in the bacterial cell. Bacitracip, penetrating the bacterial cell, binds to receptors on its inner surface and disrupts the synthesis of peptidoglycan, the main component of the cell wall. Prednisolone is a glucocorticosteroid, having an anti-inflammatory and anti-allergenic effect, which allows you to minimize the inflammatory reaction and swelling of the udder tissue. When the drug is administered into the milk tanks, the active substances penetrate the udder parenchyma, remaining in therapeutic concentrations for 12 hours. Mastitis Forte, in terms of the degree of impact on the body, is classified as a low-hazard substance (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76) and does not irritate the udder tissue.

III. ORDER OF APPLICATION

8. Mastiet Forte is intended for the treatment of clinical and subclinical forms of mastitis of bacterial etiology in cows during lactation.

9. Contraindication for use is the individual hypersensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug. It is not recommended to use Mastiet Forte on cows during the dry period, or to use cleansing wipes to treat udder teats with open wounds.

10. Mastitis Forte is injected into the affected quarter of the cow's udder in a single dose of 8 g (contents of 1 dispensing syringe) 3-4 times with an interval of 12 hours. Before using the drug, milk (secret) from the diseased quarters of the udder is milked, disinfected and disposed of, the nipple is thoroughly treated with a cleansing cloth (supplied with the drug), then the protective cap is removed, the tip of the dispenser syringe is inserted into the nipple canal and the contents are carefully squeezed out. After this, the tip is removed, the tip of the nipple is pinched with your fingers and the nipple is lightly massaged from bottom to top for better distribution of the drug.

11. Overdose symptoms have not been identified when using Mastiet Forte.

12. The specific effects of the drug upon its first use and discontinuation have not been identified.

13. You should avoid skipping the next dose of the drug, as this may lead to a decrease in therapeutic effectiveness. If one dose is missed, the use of the drug is resumed at the same dosage and according to the same regimen.

14. When using Mastiet Forte in accordance with these instructions, side effects and complications, as a rule, are not observed. In case of increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the components of the drug and signs of allergy appear, the use of Mastiet Forte is stopped and the animal is prescribed antihistamines and symptomatic therapy.

15. The use of Mastiet Forte does not exclude the use of other drugs for animals, with the exception of drugs for intracisternal administration.

16. Milk can be used for food purposes no earlier than 96 hours after the last administration of Mastiet Forte. Milk from healthy quarters of the udder, obtained earlier than the established period, can be used after boiling as animal feed. Slaughter of animals for meat is permitted no earlier than 14 days after the last use of Mastiet Forte. The meat of animals forcedly killed before the expiration of the specified period can be used as feed for fur-bearing animals.

IV. PERSONAL PREVENTION MEASURES

17. When using Mastiet Forte, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions provided for when working with medications.

18. If the drug gets on the skin and/or mucous membranes, it is recommended to rinse them with plenty of running water. People with hypersensitivity to the components of the drug should avoid direct contact with Mastiet Forte. If allergic reactions occur or if the drug enters the human body, you must immediately contact a medical facility (bring with you the instructions for use of the drug or the label).

19. It is prohibited to use empty dosing syringes from the drug for household purposes; they must be disposed of with household waste.

Indications for use and mechanism of action

The complex contains a selected group of antibacterial substances. Their combined use enhances the effect of each component and has a rapid detrimental effect on pathogenic microorganisms.

Action of active components:

  • neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic with a pronounced bacteriostatic effect;
  • bacitracin is an active polypeptide antibiotic;
  • Prednisolone is a corticosteroid, anti-inflammatory and decongestant drug.
  • tetracycline is a broad-spectrum antibiotic.

The high-quality composition quickly kills all pathogenic flora and has a pronounced anti-inflammatory effect.

Prescribed for:

  • otitis media;
  • infectious dermatitis;
  • balanoposthitis.

The active components of Mastiet forte enhance each other's antimicrobial effects against microorganisms that cause inflammation of the udder or ear canal, mainly cocci. The steroid component prednisolone relieves swelling at the site of inflammation. The drug is classified as a low-toxic drug that does not irritate the mucous membranes, as well as the parenchyma of organs. The duration of antimicrobial activity lasts for half a day from the moment of administration.

Dosage and instructions for use

Dosage and method of application depend on the specific disease.

For otitis media, the suspension is squeezed out of a syringe into the auricle. Then the entire ear is gently massaged to distribute the medication evenly.

First, you need to thoroughly clean the dog’s ears with a damp cotton swab to remove wax deposits. It is not recommended to use cotton swabs, because... When cleaning, they can cause injury to your pet.

For infectious otitis media, both ears must be treated. Treatment of the ears is carried out once a day for 7 days. In severe cases, it is possible to use the product for up to 10 days.

For dermatitis, the emulsion is applied in a thin layer to the affected area of ​​the skin and gently rubbed in easily. The manipulation is carried out twice a day. The minimum course of treatment is three days. Continued use of the medicine is necessary until the symptoms disappear completely.

Can be used in the form of compresses. The drug is applied to a gauze pad and applied to damaged skin for 20-30 minutes.

For balanoposthitis (inflammation of the penis in male dogs), the suspension is injected into the preputial sac and carefully distributed throughout the entire organ.

The method of using Mastiet Forte in cats is similar to in dogs.

Contraindications

The drug should not be used in animals that are hypersensitive to the active components of the drug (according to medical history). Not recommended for dry cows. Do not clean open wounds with cleansing wipes. There were no symptoms characteristic of an overdose.

Specific instructions

Milk obtained during the use of the drug is disposed of. Meat from animals slaughtered before 3 days after treatment cannot be sold for food or consumed. The use of milk is restricted for the same period. If it is obtained from unaffected tanks, it can be fed to animals.

When working, you must use standard techniques - it is not recommended to smoke, eat or drink. People with hypersensitivity should avoid contact with the drug. The work of these components is enhanced by bacitracin. Mastitis Forte relieves swelling, inflammatory and allergic reactions thanks to prednisolone. Antibiotics do an excellent job against most bacteria that are released during infectious diseases: Staphylococcus aureus; Staphylococcus agalactia; Staphylococcus adizagalactia; Klebsiella spp; Arcanobacterium pyogenes; Escherichiosis coli. Magnesium stearate normalizes the functions of the endocrine system and the functioning of internal organs. It is also necessary for better sliding of the suspension. The antimicrobial effect of the components in the animal’s body is active for 12 hours. According to the degree of danger of substances, the suspension belongs to low-hazard class 4.

Storage conditions

The medicine is stored in its original packaging, which protects from ultraviolet radiation, in a dry room where there is no feed or food products. Storage at 2–25 °C ensures the drug’s suitability for use for 2 years.
